Edward KITTO of Moonta, SA

Edward Kitto (senior - b.1804) was a miner of Redriver in Cornwall. His origins are believed to be from Breage before moving to the area around Redruth. His parents are likely James KITTO b. 1763 Breage and Mary CARTER b.c1774 Breage.  His son, also Edward, married twice, and with second wife Grace (nee Thomas) migrated to the Moonta mines in South Australia around 1870. The preliminary information was supplied by Mrs Leonie Arnold 10 Apr 1991 with as much accuracy as she could determine.  This is my updated file.

This tree is provided to family historians without prejudice. I have constructed most of my family trees using the data I have available, and in a few cases it is estimated as the best fit from available choices. In this tree, several of the links are yet to be proved, so any help that you can give to confirm any line would be appreciated by me and others searching in this family. More modern families also need your inputs, because as I can link modern families to each other, and thus it enables a focus on their common ancestry. The memories of one branch may not be complete, but yet may fill in gaps of another branch. Only by a concerted effort can we really define the true lineage. Help me to help you by sharing what you have. Many additional details have been provided by other researchers and where possible I have included the contributor's email addresses within the file next to their families, however there are countless others also involved. I am willing to also add you in to your KITTO family. My thanks to you all.

(3) James KITTO of Victoria

Much of this family has been researched by Lyn HAMPEL - her family tree is attached to the end of this file.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Another family of KITTOs to settle in Australia was James and Richard of Germoe

James was the son of Thomas KITTO and Sarah (Sally) nee KITTO of Breage/Germoe in Cornwall, one of their family of ten children.  James KITTO married in 1843 in Phillack, Cornwall to Caroline PARSONS and they had a family of six children in Germoe, Cornwall.  James arrived in 1858 to Victoria on the “Countess of Elgin”.  His wife Caroline died in Germoe in 1864 so the family of three daughters and a son travelled alone on the “Sir Robert Sale” in 1868.  James remarried in 1868 in Eaglehawk, Victoria to Catherine BASSETT.
