FAREWELLS TO SOLDIERS,   (Kensington, 1916)

PRIVATES A. AND E. KITTO Several friends of Privates Albert and Ernest KITTO, sons of Lieut. W.J. Kitto, late of the old corps of Adelaide Lancers, met at his residence, Park road, Kensington, on Friday evening to say au revoir and to make the lads a presentation as a reminder of the regard and respect in which they are held. The house and surroundings were festooned with greenery and bunting interspersed with lights, and the whole made a pleasing picture. Private Sorries proposed the health of the departing boys in a practical speech, and handed a wristlet watch to one brother and a pair of field glasses to the other. The soldiers replied. The toast of the father and mother was honoured, and Lieut. Kitto, responding, said he was a proud man to have his sons fighting for the Empire, and expressed the hope that they would all meet again after the war. The National Anthem and "Come on. Australians" were played, and the following contributed to the programme— Private Brown, Sergeant Main. Private Sorries, Miss Sincock, Miss Grace Watson, Mrs. F. Kitto, Corporal Cambers, and Private Brown, Miss Hammer and Mr.C.E. Walter. Among the guests were Sergeant Jenkins, Messrs. Wigzell, J.W. Kitto and sons, A. Kitto, Private F. Watson, Mr. Lines, Trumpeter Clark and Mrs. Clark, Mr. D. Mc- Carty, Mr. and Miss Sylvia Schneider, Major Briar, Corporal Harman, Miss Withers, Privates Walsh, Shinnick, and Cryton, Sergeant Page. Corporal Warne, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Walter, Mr. Mrs., and Miss Grace Watson, Mrs. Clements, Mrs. Chambers, Private E. S. and Mrs. Kitto, and Mr. and. Mrs. F. Kitto.
