I have constructed most of my family trees using the data I have available, and in a few cases, it is estimated as the best fit from available choices.  In this tree, several of the links are yet to be proved, so any help that you can give to confirm any line would be appreciated by me and others searching in this family. More modern families also need your inputs, because as I can link modern families to each other, and thus it enables a focus on their common ancestry. The memories of one branch may not be complete but yet may fill in gaps of another branch. Only by a concerted effort can we really define the true lineage. ABBREVIATIONS USED

OPR-KS - the Kilsyth Parish Registers of Scotland transcribed by me "KS" from films of the originals. In some cases with my direct ancestors I have included the actual photo of the OPR entry.

KPR-KS - the Kilsyth Parish Registers of Scotland confirmed by careful second transcripts of the original films of the originals

IGI reg - from parish register films from the International Genealogical Index of the Latter Day Saints. Usually a reliable source. “Family Search” is not necessarily an “IGI reg” source

IGI - from non-recognised sources in the International Genealogical Index of the Latter Day Saints. Not necessarily a reliable source

Place names follow the standard Chapman Codes, eg Stirling = Sti etc.

Person's names are as found in the original records, so expect many spelling variations.

ROSS

 

The Ross family of Kilsyth are apparently not an original Kilsyth family. They have arrived from other parts at different times. Charles ROSS came before 1727 as a merchant and became the Quartermaster of the Town of Kilsyth. Descendants of his are still found in Kilsyth. Andrew ROSS arrived from Madderty in Perthshire around 1835 as an overseer in a cotton factory. His large family probably has modern descendants there. Quite a few other individuals have arrived as labourers, shoemakers, canal builders and miners. Some have descendant families. All have contributed to Kilsyth's growth.
