PATRICK

My extracts from the Parish Registers of Kilsyth, Stirling, Scot. for years 1684 to about 1795, with a few odd later entries.

beginning about 1684 in Volume 2 (1672 – 1721), Volume 3 (1723 – 1737), Volume 4 (1737 – 1766), Volume 5 (1766 – 1795) Baptisms & Marriages.

Alexander and his younger then unmarried brother John came to America in 1879 through New York. Margaret and the 4 oldest girls (all under the age of 5) came one year later. Alexander worked in a coal mine, where during an explosion he lost several fingers and an eye. He and his wife returned to Kilsyth to celebrate their 50^th wedding anniversary. His brother John had no children, but my father remembered his as “Uncle Choke” which was probably really Uncle Jack or maybe Jock but sounded a bit different to American ears. On that line, our family has always pronounced the last name as “Pay-trick”.
