KITTO’s from CARDINHAM

This tree is provided to family historians without prejudice. I have constructed most of my KITTO family trees using the data I have available, and in a few cases it is estimated as the best fit from available choices.  In this tree, several of the links are yet to be proved, so any help that you can give to confirm any line would be appreciated by me and others searching in this family. More modern families also need your inputs, because as I can link modern families to each other, and thus it enables a focus on their common ancestry. The memories of one branch may not be complete, but yet may fill in gaps of another branch. Only by a concerted effort can we really define the true lineage. Help me to help you by sharing what you have.

From Cardinham for all of the 1700 to 1800’s, the movement of this family appears to be around 1810 to St Austell, where William, John and Humphrey have their children baptised at the St Austell, Wesleyan, and later in 1840 to Tywardreath.

                                    KITTO of Cardinham

KITTO family of Cardinham, Cornwall, England.

There appears to be a family of six children

However there has yet to be a confirmed linking together of these earlier family members

Padstow, Bodmin  or Blisland of the Bodmin District

A very large family of KITT / KIT exists in Blisland in 1500’s – probably became KITTO

The Trial of James and William LIGHTFOOT continued.

Thomas Kitto [was] examined – “I am a miller, living in St. Breock. I supplied James Lightfoot in July last, with flour. The amount due from him was 10s. I had applied many times before Christmas for my money, and could not get it. I recollect the Wednesday after this murder took place; on that day my debt was paid. Maria Lightfoot, wife of the prisoner James, paid me a half sovereign.” This closed the case. Both were found guilty and hanged.

The West Britain & Cornwall Advertiser – Friday, 24 Oct 1845

At CARDYNHAM, near BODMIN, on the 19th instant, Mr. John KITT, aged 85 years.

Added note from Cornish-Gen

This is an interesting report.  The parish is Cardynham, but the date of death for John Kitt in the newspaper was probably incorrect.  The parish register (actual image - not a transcription), records his burial as 15 October 1845 at the age of 86.  It is unlikely that they would have buried him 4 days prior to his death.  He was indeed 86 at death, as the parish register entry 29 April 1759 records his christening that date.  Even in that day, the newspapers did not always get things exactly correct.
