ORCHARD

THE EARLIEST FAMILIES

==================================================================

These very early generations are pure speculation, based on their visibility in the early Chancery Proceedings, Lay Subsidies and Musters. They are my guestimates only and not to be quoted as fact. Any confirming or contrary data would be appreciated - Ken STEWART < kjstew@iinet.net.au >

Much of the data was provided by Edward MARTIN and Barbara MANKIN and later for the northern families by Dallas MANICOM

An earlier family from “Orchard” has been provided by Ken OZANNE < ken_ozanne@yahoo.com.au > and can be found below at earliest family

A website link for ORCHARD families of S W England & S Wales and an ORCHARD family Y-DNA Project at worldfamilies - orchard

This tree is provided to family historians without prejudice. I have constructed most of my family trees using the data I have available, and in a few cases it is estimated as the best fit from available choices. In this tree, several of the links are yet to be proved, so any help that you can give to confirm any line would be appreciated by me and others searching in this family. More modern families also need your inputs, because as I can link modern families to each other, and thus it enables a focus on their common ancestry. The memories of one branch may not be complete, but yet may fill in gaps of another branch. Only by a concerted effort can we really define the true lineage. Help me to help you by sharing what you have. Many additional details have been provided by other researchers and where possible I have included the contributor's email addresses within the file next to their families, however there are countless others also involved. I am willing to also add you in to your ORCHARD family. My thanks to you all.

Early history researched by Edward MARTIN, Copy received 11th Feb 2000

Arms: Azure [blue], a chevron argent [silver/white] between three pears or [gold/yellow]. Arms used by the Orchards of Aldercombe (see D5) and on a 1695 deed by the widow of Thomas Orchard of Marazion (see E2d).

This family probably takes its name from a farm called Week Orchard, which lies at the northern end of the parish of Week St Mary, close to the boundaries with the parishes of Marhamchurch and Poundstock. Some early members of the family are styled 'of Millhouse' or 'alias Millhouse', or 'alias Melwys' which is the name of a farm adjacent to Week Orchard. Kitsham is another farm close by.

THE EARLY FAMILIES

WEEK ST MARY => 1608 => BREAGE

The Week St Mary registers began in 1620

Barbara MANKIN < bmankin@uia.net > provided me with the early generations, emailed 18 Jul 1998, and supplemented by me from the Poll Taxes and the IGI

Edward MARTIN < edmartin@otfsuff.freeserve.co.uk > then provided a far more substantial list of research notes in 1999 that now forms the backbone of this tree. I have supplemented his tree with some of my notes.

The Jacobstow, Week St Mary and North Petherwin ORCHARDs were updated from the research of  Dallas Manicom family.trees@yahoo.ca >)
